All I want for Christmas

The flat was silent and dark, save for the twinkling lights of the little Christmas tree, when Ernie and Lisa Apparated home after midnight mass with the Turpins. Lisa'd always loved the Christmas Eve service; there was something about the combination of the holy presence and the Christmas music that always got her.

Shedding her nondescript black wool coat, she turned and laced her fingers through Ernie's belt loops, drawing him closer to her. "Thank you," she murmured, kissing his cheek, "for coming. I know you didn't really want to."

"Anything for you, love."

Love is just a word

Stephen was not in a good mood. It was almost Christmas, which meant two weeks of parties at Carisbrooke and 'family bonding,' if you could call it that. Balls and dinners, teas and informal gatherings, they all made him want to slit his wrists.

And Cassie, the one bright spot he'd been counting on to help get him through the week, was deserting him. All in all, Stephen was not a happy man.

She hated leaving Stephen to spend what was supposed to be the happiest time of the year with the family that tormented him. What Cassie really wanted was to bring him with her, to show him how a real family spent time together. It was too soon for that, though. Such an invitation implied things about their relationship that hadn't even been hinted at yet.

"Here," Ben tossed the keys in Stephen's direction as the last of the patrons shuffled out, arms around each other and singing merrily. "Make yourself useful and lock the doors."

Stephen examined the keys with a curious eye. "You mean you don't just use wards?"

Ben rolled his eyes and snatched the keys from his friend's hand. "You are bloody useless, I hope you realize that."

Lavender was not snooping. She was absolutely not snooping around in Dean's brother's room. She had a perfectly legitimate reason for being there. She was looking for... toilet paper. And if she happened upon juicy information or possible blackmail material while she was in there? Well, that was beside the point, wasn't it?

And that was the story she was sticking with if someone walked in. Though why she was looking for toilet paper between his mattresses would be a bit more difficult to explain away.

Her lips formed a little O when she drew away with a small plastic baggy dangling from her fingers. If this was what she thought it was, no one would be to terribly annoyed by how she found it. With a little giggle, she pushed to her feet and dashed back to Parvati's room. "Look, look, look!" she said, taking a flying leap onto the bed. "Look what I found!"

Angelina moved around her flat, merrily shaking her groove thang to the Christmas music that blast all around her and wildly directed the decorative ribbons streaming from the end of her wand. She'd procrastinated decorating this year and was trying to fling up some holiday cheer before company arrived--like usual. But so far she thought she'd done rather well. The windows were perfectly frosted, gold ribbon was attaching itself to the counter, there was a festive center piece on her coffee table and there weren't empty champagne bottles scattered everywhere.

Hidden in the shadows of the back of the club, Julian sipped on a tumbler of his best Irish whiskey as he watched the happenings. It was quiet tonight; with Christmas on the near horizon, patronage was not at its peek. Too many people wanted to be with their families, to cherish and reflect during the holidays. Not Julian, though.

He didn't have a family to cherish.

Sighing, Lisa snuggled deeper into Ernie's side. It was cold outside, but she was warm and comfortable in front of the fire, nestled with her husband on the sofa. Outside the window, it was snowing lightly, almost making her long for her little cottage on the moors. But it wasn't home anymore.

Home was here, with Ernie.

Ernie glanced down at the top of Lisa's head and smiled, pressing a kiss into her hair. "Happy?"

"The happiest I've ever been," she answered honestly, glancing up at him with a smile. "Ready for our first Christmas together?"

Giving her coat and scarf to the waiting elf, Millicent made her way to the gentleman's parlour. She waved off a second elf who attempted to guide her. It was unnecessary. She knew the way. She had spent many a happy night listening to her brothers discuss business, absorbing everything--even when they thought she wasn't listening.

Of course, Gentleman's Parlour brought to mind a very specific image and once she started growing breasts those happy nights had ceased abruptly. It seemed nobody knew what to do with actual physical proof that she was a girl. Not her brothers and certainly not Millicent. Bloody hell, that had been a trying time, still was if she wanted to be honest with herself, but those thoughts were best kept to herself. She would be lying, however, if she said she wasn't surprised by Dominic's owl.

Gentleman's parlour. 16:00. Be prompt.

Heidi was all but dancing on air, she knew it and she didn't like it, but there wasn't anything she could do about it. She'd been shagged and it had been good and she felt wonderful. And it was for that reason - the shagging, not the dancing - that she was standing on Katie's doorstep with a bottle of wine and a wrapped Christmas present. She needed to tell someone about it, and who better than her bestie.

Raising her free hand, she rapped on the door and called out in a sing-song voice, "let me in, Katie Lou."

The door opened to reveal a small house elf. "Mizzy Heidi," Nïx said, giving the woman a low bow, "Mizzy Katie be in the living room."

"Thank you, Nix." Heidi hummed as she sailed by the small creature and up into the living room. "Grab the glasses, we have things to talk about."

Stepping in from the cold, Stephen glanced around the worn pub, looking for its barmy owner. After an afternoon of shopping, he was in desperate need of a drink. Cassie's present was tucked away safely in his pocket, its velvet box protecting it in addition to the charms and spells that were woven into the leather.

"Darcy, love, where's Bradley?" he asked once he'd caught the attention of Ben's assistant.

The blonde worried her lower lip while she contemplated telling the truth and getting herself fired, or lying outright. The truth won out and she pointed at the ceiling. "Up there, drunk off his arse, like he's been for the last several hours."

Drip

Drip

Drip

The soft sounds of leaking pipes echoed through the damp, musty underground corridor, the cacophony of sounds occasionally joined by the skittering of rats over the cobblestones. The Diagon Alley underground, home of the darkest and seediest of vermin and even more unsavory than Knockturn Alley, ran the entire length of the wizarding section of London. Most magical folk never knew that, not thirty feet beneath their feet, existed an entire network of tunnels, lairs and other such dens of iniquity.

Darin Hyater was normally a composed, collected wizard, but at that moment, he was sweating profusely and felt like he might pass out. A dealer in restricted items, he made his profits by providing the unprovidable. Rich men- and women- paid small fortunes for dragon eggs, Erupment horns, and other various items the Ministry deemed Non-Tradeable.

Leaving Lisa with a promise that she'd tell Ernie and Justin and everyone else as soon as she had talked to Ben, Hannah Apparated to the small alley beside the Raven's Nest. Standing in the familiar spot, she took a couple deep breaths, sure that everything was going to be okay. It had to be. One more deep breath and she moved into the pub, raising a hand to Darcy as she moved back towards the office.

Knocking softly, she slipped into the small office, a forced smile on her face. "Hallo Ben. Have a minute?"

"For you I've got all the time in the world," he replied, turning to face her.

The other woman had been clucking at her to sit down and relax, she was looking tired, but Hannah ignored them as she breezed out the door and walked down Diagon. She was on a mission, a very important mission, to find the cutest and best items for her goddaughter. Despite the less than perfect situation, she knew Justin would be the best father he could to the little girl. And Hannah had a bit of practice if he needed any help.

The chilly December air felt nice against her face as she made her way towards Bug-a-Boo. She was meeting Lisa to go shopping. She didn't know, hadn't really asked, how Ernie's wife felt about the newest addition to their little Hufflepuff group, but considering she was shopping for Bridget said a lot.

This was not what I meant )
